Greetings all,

As I reread my ggggrandfathers letter again, I find ythis.

And you have a bridge across the river at "sloc an eichdhuibh". A bit later he applauds the choice of a church site at Garadh Mhor.

We are still learning how to get a respectable scanned copy that is yet small enough in Kb to email, and you will have the transcript of the letter. The original is in Scotland. I am going to write my cousin to tell of this website and enquire as to whether or not whoever posesses it might be willing to scan the original.

Slainte,

Donal

Greetings,

I think I have found the meaning of the phrase....pool of the black horse.

Now I wonder, first, which pool on the Lyon, and if the 'black horse' is related to the water spirits of gaelic story.

Greetings all,

OK, the pool is in Glenlyon, but might not be in the Lyon itself. I wonder if anyone there has access to a history of when the bridges were built. Especially between the years of 1798 and 1855.

This would have had to have been a first time bridge over that portion of the river.

Slainte,

Donal
